The 64% Strategy is one of the simplest coverage-based roulette systems: bet on two of the three dozens and win on approximately 64.86% of all spins. No complex bet selection, no progressive staking — just two chips on two dozens every spin. The name comes directly from the win probability.

What Is the 64% Strategy?

The 64% Strategy — also called the Two Dozens Strategy or Double Dozen System — is a flat-bet coverage system for European roulette. You place equal bets on any two of the three dozen sections (1–12, 13–24, 25–36) and leave the third dozen and the zero unbet.

With 24 of 37 numbers covered, you win on 24 ÷ 37 = 64.86% of spins. Each win pays +1 unit net (a dozen pays 2:1, so 1 unit returns 3 — minus the 1 unit on the losing dozen = net +1). Each loss costs 2 units (both dozens lose when zero or the uncovered dozen hits).

Why “64%”? The strategy is named after its win rate, not a specific inventor. Some sources also call it the “Two Columns Strategy” when the same logic is applied to column bets — the mathematics are identical.

How It Works: The Bet Structure

Bet Numbers covered Units staked Payout Net profit if hit
Dozen A (e.g. 1–12) 12 numbers 1 unit 2:1 +1 unit
Dozen B (e.g. 13–24) 12 numbers 1 unit 2:1 +1 unit
Third Dozen + Zero 13 numbers 0 −2 units
Total per spin 24 numbers 2 units +1 (win) / −2 (loss)
The loss asymmetry: You win +1 unit on 64.86% of spins, but lose −2 units on 35.14% of spins. Two losses wipe out two wins. This is the core challenge of the 64% system — a short run of losses can erase a long winning streak quickly.

The Mathematics

MetricValueCalculation
Win probability64.86%24 ÷ 37
Loss probability35.14%13 ÷ 37 (12 uncovered + zero)
Net profit per win+1 unit3 returned − 2 staked
Net loss per loss−2 units0 returned − 2 staked
Expected value per spin−0.054 units(0.6486 × 1) + (0.3514 × −2)
House edge2.70%Same as all EU roulette bets
Expected loss per 100 spins−5.4 units0.054 × 100

The expected value of −0.054 units per spin confirms the house edge of 2.7% is fully intact. Per €100 staked (50 spins × 2 units at €1/unit), you expect to lose €2.70 — identical to any other European roulette bet. The 64% win rate does not create a mathematical advantage.

Variations of the 64% Strategy

Classic Two Dozens (flat)

The standard version: 1 unit on each of two dozens, every spin. Same two dozens throughout the session. Simple, mechanical, no decisions.

Rotating Dozens

Switch which dozen is “uncovered” after a loss on the uncovered dozen. If 25–36 hits while you’re betting 1–12 and 13–24, rotate: cover 13–24 and 25–36 next spin. Psychologically satisfying but mathematically identical.

Progressive 64% (Martingale hybrid)

After each loss, increase both dozen bets to recover. After a loss of 2 units, bet 2 units per dozen (4 total) to win back 2. This is essentially a Martingale applied to the 64% structure — it increases bankroll risk substantially. Not recommended.

Two Columns Version

Identical mathematics, different table placement. Instead of two dozen sections, bet 1 unit on each of two of the three column sections. The column layout covers the same number count with the same probabilities — the choice between dozens and columns is purely personal preference.

Best variation: The flat version (1 unit per dozen, fixed selection) gives you the most controlled bankroll exposure. Rotation and progression variants add complexity without improving the expected return.

Step-by-Step: How to Play the 64% Strategy

1
Choose your two dozens
Select any two of the three dozen sections: 1–12, 13–24 or 25–36. The mathematics are equal for all combinations. Stick with your selection for the entire session.
2
Set your unit size
Unit = 1–2% of session bankroll. At €200 bankroll → €2 per unit → €4 total stake per spin. You need enough for at least 25 losing spins.
3
Place 1 unit on each chosen dozen
Place chips on the “1st 12”, “2nd 12” or “3rd 12” boxes at the bottom of the table layout. Total stake: 2 units every spin without exception.
4
Respect your stop-loss and profit target
Recommended: stop-loss at −20 units, profit target at +10 units. A sequence of 10 consecutive losses (35% chance per spin → ~0.35^10 = 0.003% per 10-spin run) is rare but devastating without a hard limit.

Pros & Cons

Advantages
  • Wins on nearly 2 out of 3 spins — high frequency of positive outcomes
  • Extremely simple to execute — just two outside bets
  • Fixed 2-unit stake — no progression or bankroll explosion
  • Works at any table minimum with a moderate bankroll
  • Psychologically comfortable — frequent small wins
Disadvantages
  • Loss costs 2 units, win earns only 1 — asymmetric payoff
  • Two consecutive losses wipe out two wins — net neutral
  • Zero always loses both bets — the house edge is fully preserved
  • Long cold streaks on the uncovered dozen are statistically inevitable
  • No mathematical edge — expected value is negative

Key rule: Never chase a loss by increasing your dozen stake mid-session. The 64% win rate feels comfortable, but a run of 6–8 consecutive losses (statistically expected every 150–200 spins) will erase a significant portion of your session profit without a hard stop-loss.
